The Medical Social Worker must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, sociology or other related field and a Masters in social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Also must have 1-year experience under the supervision of a MSW. The Medical Social Worker assesses the psychosocial status of patients/families/caregivers ability to function adequately. The MSW also prepares and submits clinical progress notes, which reflect patient/family issues and goals as it relates to the plan of care. The MSW also counsels the patients/families/caregivers as needed in relationship to stress and other identified coping difficulties. Must also work effectively with the interdisciplinary team, physicians and other medical professionals in the community.
